Another anecdote for you... |
Dreamer of Destiny was my first novel, but it came close to never being written.
|
I had a dream so vivid that I jumped up from my bed and went to get it down as fast as I could before it faded. Made me glad I'm a fast typist. The entire idea was written in one evening. Over the next few months, I started tweaking what I'd written. My husband at that time found it and erased it. He didn't want his wife writing stories of that 'type'. The idea remained emblazoned on my brain though and years after we divorced, I typed it up again and printed it - along with dozens of other ideas that were coming to me. I placed them all in a folder and tucked them away. As I was a single parent at that point, I didn't feel I had time to write more than ideas. The years passed and my daughters, then 12 and 13, found my folder and started reading my stuff. They brought it to me and asked me what it was. I explained it to them and then told them that being a single parent left little time to write. They began to encourage me - rather forcibly - to do so again and that they would do whatever was needed to help, and they did, even going so far as to provide ideas for me when I got writer's block. If not for them, Dreamer of Destiny may never have been written, which is why I dedicate all of my work to my children. To this day, when I have writer's block, I turn to my daughters for ideas. They never let me down.
